Least Expensive Bike Rack for a 2022 X7M
Hey guys.
I just taught my 4 years old how to ride a bike, so after 20+ years without one, I bought myself something so we can go on our little rides. When I "built" my X7 I declined on the tow hitch because I was never going to buy a boat, trailer, RV, etc, and I don't keep cars for too long. However, now, looks like I need something to tow my bike. It barelly fits inside even with the 2nd and 3rd rows completely down, not leaving space for my daughter's car seat. What's the least expensive way to transport one bike on the X7? My daughter's fits easily inside. I even called Thule but they don't offer any racks due to the clamshell layout. I really didn't want to spend $1,400-1,500 on a Stealth Hitch and bike rack for something that will be barely used with a 4-5 years old child. Thanks! How about a roof mount bike holder? All you need is a set of cross bars which can be purchased for as little as $150-200. There are a # of options available for roof mount bike rack.
It is more work to get the bike(s) on/off the roof then a rear mount rack though |

That may be the best bet. Maybe just a little inconvenience to put the bike up and down, but that may save $1,000. Saw some videos and there's a little process to remove the front wheel, protect the disc brake, put the bike up, strap it and reverse the process after getting to the destination (usually parks in a 10-30 minutes radius).
Let's see if other people have better solutions. Thanks! |

Initial thought was roof as well.
Random thought- if you’re only going 10-20 minutes would you consider hanging the back wheel over the hatch/grocery catch? In other words, keep the lower trunk closed and the upper part open? Not sure if it would drive like that or what warnings would go off. Would also likely want to secure it somehow inside. (loved that the back window in my old 4Runner used to open- made it so much easier trying to carry certain items). |
