Will there be an X7 50e?

Wondering if a hybrid (i.e., 50e) is in the works, or are we limited to only the 40i and M60i.

Thanks.

That will kill the 3rd row seats (assuming BMW would even think of doing it). Currently, there are no plans for a PHEV X7. The first PHEV will be available when the next X7 generation is revealed around 2026.

30 miles of range and your regular i6 turbo? Sounds fun.

The original i3 was an EV that had a 1.3 gallon gas tank used as a generator.

From what I understand- that big 20 gallon tank acts like a generator too- people say it doesn't always need to be plugged in to get range. Maybe that's not true but it's what I have read

EV or PHEV are very useful to some people or families. We have an EV and my wife strictly uses it to pick up groceries, take kids to school, going to Gym, going to a nearby park or river for a walk, and other short local trips were the drive itself is boring or not a big deal. It does very well in very cold and very hot weather as the AC in these EVs is superior, yet all that for zero gas and about 9 cents a kWh.
huskerdoc2020 point that it is stupid may be valid sometimes but can’t be generalized to all uses and cases.
I still use my X7 as my daily drive, but we also like our EV after our experience with the one we have now and for what we use it for.

Not this gen….

Next gen x7 will still be clar and insiders have indicated we should expect both PHEV and full ev versions

Personally I am interested in whatever the next gen 50e becomes in 5 years… should be over 500hp and 50-60 miles all electric by then

The next LCI X5 that will be revealed 4/2023 will have the largest BMW EV battery on any PHEV to date (not including full EVs). The current one has a generous range, so it will be interesting if the new one will get a 50 miles plus range. The 7-sedan PHEV is also coming next year and am also very excited about it and the range it will have.

Agree the lci x5 50e motor is gonna be great @480 total system hp… whatever the evolution of that power unit platform is would be my choice in 2027 for the all new x7. To your point bmw has also been adding range along with power

I am also curious about that M760e (edit and upcoming m560e) which is even more powerful but doesn't sound like it is in the cards for the US market. However, by the time the new x7 debuts in 4-5 years that may change…. Still think I would stick with the "smaller" 50e motor

480hp on the 5-series would be really fun. We have a 530e, and I wish it has power as it’s really fund to drive, but anyway we only use it for certain short trips.

Agree - we have the X7 M50 a 911 and an e golf… the golf is brilliant for driving around town an running errands. When there is an X7 size SUV with incredible range I’d be in…. Not so sure on an ev 911 though - sorry!

You can always put a gas generator in your trunk like an EGO and. The solar panel outside

Brought this thread back from the dead!

That being said, now that we've had a lot of data on the X5 50e side, maybe it's good BMW didn't try it on the X7. Fun reading if you're bored.

I always thought the real game changer could be a gas inline 6 with a battery that could go 100 miles.

Until it’s there- I think it’s either ev or ice. But who knows!

Granted I only have 2800 miles on mine but the combination of a twin turbo V8 with the PHEV battery is a blast in my XM. Best powertrain I’ve ever had and that’s coming from a 2023 760, a X5 M50i before that. And best part of all, you can disable the auto stop/start with the M configuration

The current x5/x7 share chassis, in the x5 hybrid 45e and 50e the battery location is beneath the rear load floor, this is where the passenger footwell would be for the rear seats.

We need an updated design that prioritizes accommodating a hybrid to get the batteries to fit. That’s why we won’t see the hybrid till next gen.

I will be the first to buy an X7 PHEV if it ever comes out.
