Start/stop is going to make me sell this 2024
This shit is ridiculous! Today is 96 degrees and when I come to a stop its blowing warm air until it restarts. Yes, sometimes I click the shifter into Sport mode and that keeps it running, but I don't want to drive normally in sport, holding revs and downshifting aggressively as I come to a stop. This isn't luxury. The worst is when your slowing to turn, but not stop, it shuts off, then comes back on and accelerates aggressively. I'm seriously considering selling. It pisses me off that much. Anyone want a 2024 M60i?

Not that it isn't annoying (and I have a '22 so I can still juts select it off in any mode) but you could program the sport individual I assume to shift less aggressively and basically run like comfort with some stiffer steering. Again, I get it is annoying but then it is a one-button push to get rid of start-stop

Just a thought but maybe take it to your dealer. It shouldn’t blow warm air you might have a compressor/fan issue. I know there a SIB listed in the anemic ac post. Just a thought. If you’re not happy with I completely get wanting to sell.

It is annoying that it does this, and the old sport mode trick doesn’t work as keeping the engine in comfort will still allow the engine to shut off unlike in pre-LCI cars. Also, the blower will blow warm air if it’s warm enough outside and the engine/AC compressor is off, and it can be annoying.
I haven’t tried yet, but it might be worth testing if setting the temp lower with the fan speed also lower would keep the engine running more often. For example, set to 62 with low auto fan to get equivalent cooling as 68 with medium fan selected. Maybe that will keep the engine running more often since the selected temp is lower? |

When I drive my wife's 2023 X7 on a hot day and come to a stop, I watch the Tach to see if it shuts off, if it does, I slightly lift the brake pedal without moving the car to restart the engine, sometimes it shuts off again but never more than twice at a stop, probably to protect the system, a little bit annoying but it works.

Can't you do sport individual mode where you put everything in chill mode - transmission comfort, engine comfort, etc. and then it won't start/stop...? That's what I do in our X5.

That has nothing to due with the mild hybrid kicking in. The ac might slow down just a little bit, but blowing hot air sounds like you have an issue with the ac system. They really rushed these vehicles off the line just to sell then. Qc on these must have been a joke. |

Additionally, yes the fan slows down on a start/stop event. But the compressor which is moving the freon is off and without the freon moving through the evaporator it warms up quickly.

There's no way in hell get its so hot lol but all jokes aside no way the freon can warm up in 45 seconds. I don't care if it's 125 degrees outside. That sounds like an issue

Once you come to a stop, simply take your foot off the brake momentarily and the engine will start. Being that it starts from the transmission motor, it’s hardly noticeable. It’s really not that big of a deal.

It is pretty annoying, but not sure it’s reason enough to get rid of it unless there’s a number of other issues as well.
You’re doing the same thing I do…drop the shifter into sport mode at stops. I typically pull away in sport mode and then switch back to regular drive mode. I’ve got an M60i too, so definitely like taking any opportunity to flex the engine when I can. It’s been pretty seamless for me, but I do get what you’re saying when the engine shuts off and the AC starts to blow warmer air almost immediately. |

I hate the auto start stop. My wife has it on her x7 and I ordered a 24 760i and have anxiety thinking about it shutting off in the middle of the road. Unfortunately almost all cars do this now but also almost all cars you can code it off but not bmw.
It’s ridiculous I agree and have dealt with warm air blowing when the engine shuts off. Like I’m buying a 500+ horsepower car and care about fuel economy. I’m thinking of canceling my order and just getting a gmc Yukon hd with a giant diesel engine instead….I don’t want to deal with auto start stop. |

I have about 1000 miles on my LCI X5 and have played around with sport mode in stop-and-go traffic. What I have found in comfort mode is just as the car stops, I let off the brake slightly the motor usually stays running, but if the engine has stopped, it will start right up again then I repress the brake pedal again and the motor stays on. It's almost second nature now after doing it a lot.

There won't be any bimmercode update because of the BMW's signed updates and cloud OTA bullshit. But regarding the AC... isn't the AC compressor electric on the LCI?

No, the ability to do that has been removed from the LCIs. If the drivetrain isn't in Sport then it does not shut off ASS.

So if in sport, there is no modification to the setup - suspension, throttle, engine? Ours arrives in a few weeks, so I’ll have a chance to figure it out myself.

My understanding of BMW's LCI era mild hybrid system is that a conventional 12v starter motor no longer exists and the ICE is started by the 48v integrated starter/generator that's embedded in the transmission/drive train. For how long can the 48v battery support auto s/s cycling? If you're stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, creeping along at only a couple mph, how many s/s cycles occur before the ICE has to remain running to restore the battery charge because regen braking is not contributing? Has anyone experienced this?
How large is this system's 48v battery? Is it as large as the 12v? |

No, what I was referring to was the ability to use Sport Individual set to comfort in order to turn off ASS. BMW now has it programmed that if it is set to Comfort the ASS will stay on.

A good question actually. I am waiting for mine too. So what settings are there? Is it possible to have engine in sport and transmission in comfort? I would not mind the throttle reaction, just don't want the RPMs to be kept high all the time.
