X7 M50d - share your experience

Hi everyone, I am looking to trade in my G11 750d 2017 for an X7 M50d 2019. Basically its the same equipment except that this X7 does not come with rear wheel steering option, which Im not sure about, I still have to test drive the car.

Milage 110.000km and comes with 1 year warranty or 10.000km on the engine and transmission, from the official BMW dealer.

I've heard rumors that M50d is not the same as G11 750d. From what I hear it is not as reliable. Does this make sense? Does anyone have experience with X7 M50d to share?

Thanks!

I’ll chime in as you’re not going to see a lot of 40/50d owners on this board.

My 40d is only two years and 25,000kms old but so far so good. I test drove a 50d before I bought mine and I was seriously impressed by the torque from the quad turbo, though it had more of a ‘truck’ feeling compared to the (IMO) more refined twin turbo version. It is (according to the interweb) the same engine used in your 750d, perhaps tuned differently for the X7?

A quick search on this site has a few comments, all high mileage units, with no problems reported. Which makes me happy as I plan to keep the 40d for some time.

If BMW sold the M50d in the US I would’ve bought one straight away.

Among the finest turbo diesels of the modern era.

Only feedback I’ve seen is related to the emission equipment and failures related to that being expensive. California, however, extends the warranty of that equipment for 8y/150k so if it were available in the USA, it would be a favored motor option.

Had my X7 M50d for three years now since new. I'm an avid fan of the 50d engine having had the X5 M50d previously for 4 years.
So in the 7 years of ownership of a 50d engine, I can honestly say I have not had one issue with the SUVs. I've had electrical glitches in the past but that would apply for any variant of X7's.
Its a shame they have discontinued the engine as I would buy one again in a heart beat if I could on the post face X7.
My X7 M50d was one of the last off the production line and now having purchased a new warranty, I'm planning to keep her for at least another two years. I'm hoping being one of the last, the value of the SUV will hold well.
I was debating between the 40d and 50d at the time of purchase, but having driven both, the 50d had so much extra toque and acceleration with the added exhaust sound, sold it to me.
You won't regret buying one!
