Man that Range Rover pictured above looks crazy sweet for the size of it. Major props to the exterior design team on their execution.
Ironically, in this context, the Range Rover head designer used to work for Lincoln!

When I first saw the current Q7, I did not like it one bit. Now I am kind of beginning to like it. Especially with SQ7 22inch style wheels.
I find that things I don't like when I first see them, sometimes the look grows on me, however, it is usually fleeting. In time, I generally come around to my initial impression.

You mentioned the Q7, I still think it looks like a school bus, funny thing is, the Touareg had be best proportions out of the bunch (Q7, Cayenne, Bentega).

I have a MB GL, which is a nice vehicle with the standard great MB engine, the standard smooth ride, and the standard terrible infotainment system. The user interface sucks so bad that I've been waiting on the X7 (I also like the sportier BMW feel). Hopefully there is time for significant change. I'm sure Range Rover and MB execs are very happy right now.

Well I don't have a need for one (small family), but if I did I would literally buy anything else before that. Including:
Acura MDX.
Audi Q7.
Cadillac Escalade.
Land Rover LR4.
Range Rover
Lexus LX 570.
Lincoln Navigator.
Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class
GMC Denali XL
An old hearse
funeral limo

Thank you for kind words!
Honestly, I think the production X7 will follow the same route as I went (except for the horizontal hole under the grill, based on the fact that G01 X3 already lost it) so no need to care much about this concept.

Building this type of a car using current design language is very tough task indeed. BMWs now have a very fluid design. But this 7-seater SUV class demands a monumental look with straight lines and geometric forms.

Times change but one thing stays the same: BMW is the best in making small and sporty sedans and coupes. Their competitors make 7-seaters for a long time, and this is first BMWs attempt. Here in Russia they say: «The first pancake is always a bad one»

My wife had 7 of her friends over last night and the driveway was full of newer MB GLS & full size rovers. Just for kicks I showed them some of the pictures of the new X7 and they all loved it. They thought it was sleek & modern. My wife asked when I can put a deposit down to trade in her GLS450 - which she hates by the way, I made her trade in her 2014 X5 to get a usable 3rd row and she has not stopped complaining to me.

While most guys on this forum don't like it, I think BMW hit the design out of the park for their target audience "Soccer Moms".

Having Just had this dilemma a few months ago, you would be surprised that the only real competitor to the X7 is the MB GLS. And the X7 should blow it out of the park with the electronics.

Acura MDX. <---- To Small
Audi Q7. <----- To Small
Cadillac Escalade. <---- We rented for 2 weeks and just didn't like it. Seating wise was nice, lots of blind spots in the drivers seat and it drives like a truck, not very nicely.
Land Rover LR4. <--- To Small
Range Rover <---- Full Size does not have a good 3rd row option
Lexus LX 570. <---- To Small
Lincoln Navigator. <-- Maybe with the new model, but when we bought our GLS in May it was the older style and awful.
Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class <--- Ended up buying this but the infotainment is horrible. Driving is great and seating is fantastic for 3rd row.
GMC Denali XL <--- Didn't bother to look at it after we didn't like the escalade. Felt it was the cheaper brother and not to mention enormous.

It has a certain "aura" about it, i can´t put my finger as to why. It reminds me of Range rover and Volvo XC90. As a concept it is excessive, like most concepts. I like the inside, how much of this is concept that´s being transferred to the production X7 remains to be seen. The strategy from BMW making a dent towards MB high end cars, i think it is a good move, it will bring more thunder around BMW, HERO models are needed badly.

Please lose the "over zealous grills",...Plus,...there are angles where it looks like a cross between a Toyota 4-Runner and a Jeep Cherokee!

The dash layout looks good!

As my granddaughter would say, that's just icky.

Is there any chance the final version will be toned down?
