Question about two phones connecting to the car

Recent buyer of a 2021 X7. My wife and I are driving the car; she has her own driver's profile on her own Keyfob, and I have my profile set up on my Keyfob.

One thing has been bugging us: when I use my Keyfob/profile to drive, both of our phones are still connected via bluetooth when she's sitting in the passenger seat. The result is that if she receives a phone call on her phone, that takes over the car just like it would if I received a call.

Is there any way to set things up to where when I am using my Keyfob/Profile, her phone is not connected to the car in any way? Or do we have to "disconnect (her) mobile device" every time I drive the car and she's the passenger?

there is not way to do that unfortunately. Phone pairing info is not one of the things that is tied to the key fob

Thanks for the answers. I'm surprised to hear that.

So I suppose the only options are to either get used to it? Or disconnect her phone every time she's the passenger?

There is a way to do that. At least I haven't had the problem in exactly the same scenario. I have a 2021 x7 as well, so I assume we're talking about iDrive 7.

Basically, you need to do two things:
  1. Set phone priorities
  2. Block your wife's phone for other users.

I think the second option alone may be sufficient, but it doesn't hurt to do both.

So basically, the first option sets phone priorities. It helps the iDrive select a primary phone if both are connected. Go to "Mobile Devices - > Settings -> Priorities for telephones" to configure it. See attached pictures 1 and 2.

Option #2 basically disallows a phone to be connected to the car when another driver's profile is activated. In other words, if your wife has a separate profile and she added her phone under it, then there is the "Block for other users" option available in the "Mobile Devices" section under her particular phone record (see picture 3 attached). But, again, the important part is that the phone has to be added under her profile. Once she blocks her phone for other users, it won't connect to the car when your profile is activated. You can do the same with your phone under your account so when your wife's profile is active, your phone doesn't connect to the car either.

Hope that helps.

I'm glad many people find my post helpful. Am happy to contribute to the X7 community.

On a separate note, I also unchecked the "Allow connections" under the "Bluetooth audio" section in my phone configuration in iDrive. This way my phone no longer sends audio to the car and uses its speakers for audio output.

Just experienced this with my new to me 2022 x7. Both my phone and my wife's phone seemed to be connected to the car and it made everything confusing. I will try the settings mentioned. Thanks for the information @Sharp
