Cool $22k in Damage

2024 X7 m60i only had it 2 weeks and this GMC skidded out on the ice and t-boned me back on March 13. It’s still in the shop. The front fender took a month to arrive from Germany. Just one of the wheels was $1400.00. Insurance took care of tinting and clear bra.
No one got hurt, I’m not pissed but it’s frustrating it takes so long to get back 😔
Body shop is going to get it over to dealer on Friday for several computer issues that sound problematic.
On a positive I must say the X7 protected me well.

So sorry to hear this. Glad to hear everyone is safe! This looks like a more expensive damage. I had a similar damage on a month old Audi A7 and ultimately insurance agreed to total it (cost of repair was $35k). If you ended up repairing it, don’t forget to file the diminished value claim afterwards

Most insurance companies and contracts do not allow for “ diminished value claim”. I think u need to have that explicitly mentioned in the contract to be able to leverage such claim in case of an accident.

It is not up to the insurance companies, there are state laws for this.

I’d trade that in immediately after getting the keys back. It will never be the same. That’s what I’ve learned from these repairs. It’s a sad truth and why no one wants to buy a car that’s been damaged.

Glad you’re OK and getting taken care of by the insurance company. Best of luck!

Truck driving too fast for conditions. Their insurance will be on the hook for the diminished value claim (or is Colorado a "no fault" state?).

Glad the OP is ok.

Yeah, gmc had "no seasons" on. Ask for diminished value from gmc insurance.

My X7 was rear-ended in Colorado…I was the third and last car in the chain of hits. The at-fault driver’s insurance was Progressive and they covered a diminished value claim. I had to specifically request that claim from the Progressive adjuster running the claim. It was then turned over to another person/team who required a few pieces of documentation. After the repair was complete I submitted all my documentation and then the negotiation began on the claim values. We settled on a number that I thought was fair.

Think it depends on the damage and the repair. My X7 was rear-ended and bumper and lower tailgate were damaged. I have a trailer hitch and thought for sure the frame was also damaged given the hitch may have taken a huge hit.

I dropped it off at a BMW CCRC in Dallas TX. Repair took 2months due to parts, but it looks like new. My X7 is a 2023, so paint was fairly new. They did have to blend, but I can’t tell.

Any BMW dealer will know about the repair, but unless it’s on a carfax a dealer would have to do a close inspection.

Anyway I thought I’d have to trade too, but I’m kinda glad it took a hit. Now I don’t stress too much about any future damage and just drive it for what it is…a car.

Like others have said it’s not an insurance choice, specifically how it’s managed varies state to state but it’s allowed, and with an X7 with that damage it will be 10K+..

The harder part is getting it addressed properly, the other parties insurance company will low ball it.

Example last year with an accident my wife was in.. After a bunch of back and forth Geico, the other parties company, “came up” to $5K in diminished value, after I pushed for one..

I did before and after trade quotes from multiple sources, and there was a $14K hit, since it was documented, after spending weeks trying to get out of it, they ended up paying the $14K.

Glad no one was hurt! Question - why were the parts being sent from Germany when these X7s are built in South Carolina? Or is it just that the X7s and others are just assembled in SC.

bmw warehouses parts in germany. if they run out in the US parts warehouses, thats where it dispatches from. even though most of the parts for the cars built in SC are sourced in north america, the main repository for spare parts is germany
