Just turned in our 2021 X7 40i at the end of 3 year lease- 34k miles.

One new full set of rubber at about 19k miles.
Still on original M sport brakes/pads with plenty of life left.
Otherwise just routine oil changes, filters, rotations, wipers. Zero issues.
We had IAS/DHP too, no problems.

Just got a new 2024 X7 40i with every option (including Tanzanite paint) except B&W and leather dash.

surprised - looking through the car fax at 83k - doesn't seem like much went wrong with it? *immediately regrets extended warranty purchase*

If you’re leasing it ends up being a few more bucks per month. Totally worth it in my opinion. In smaller cars the H&K is totally acceptable, but for something as cavernous as the X7 you’ll appreciate the extra speakers and wattage.

I never had B&W in my old X7 so HK seems totally acceptable - even better than that in my opinion. Turn up the Logic 7 Surround and turn up the treble & base and it sounds good.
I think the space in the X7 cabin actually makes the sound stage for HK sound better than it would in a smaller vehicle. Speakers aren’t right on top of you in the X7 so the channels can be separated more easily.

Couldn’t justify the extra $3400 B&W even on a lease (would’ve been about $50/month or $1800 over the 36 months). Didn’t seem worth it as my wife drives it 95% of the time and she thought HK was just fine for her.

Surprising about tires. I have 20k+ on pzeros and the fronts have a lot of life left and the rears still look pretty good, and I have a lead foot.

Do you have a square setup?
That’s very good mileage. I m at 8k and 5/32 all around. So my guess is another 2-3k miles before I change.

We’re at 51K km with zero issues to date (knock on wood).

Lots of towing (more than 10K km towing a 5K pd trailer)

I’m debating getting the extended warranty but will decide closer to the end of the regular warranty. Also thinking about a transfer case fluid change as a preventative maintenance item at the next service. (I’m on square 285 all seasons so hoping will not have uneven tire wear issues creating problems)

Bumping this to see the current standings and how the reliability has been for those over 100k.

49,000 miles with a 2019 x50i here.

2020 40xi with 38k miles. When it hit 20,000 miles, I started hearing strange noises coming from under the vehicle. I reported this to the dealership, but they dismissed everything as "normal." By the time the vehicle reached 37,000 miles, the rear differential had to be replaced, along with the front driver-side lower control arm. The air shock may also need replacement. Additionally, there is a grinding noise coming from the steering wheel column when it returns to its set position, which causes it to get stuck about 5 out of 10 times. Driving like a truck driver sometimes. The vehicle is going to the shop tomorrow (again). They will try to fix the steering wheel and check on the TC.

One particularly scary incident occurred when the main digital screen went completely dark while I was driving at 70 mph, triggering all warning lights to flash. This was frightening as my wife and two toddlers were in the back seat with me.

Despite driving it gently since day one, all these issues and the numerous trips to the repair shop have left me hesitant to keep the vehicle beyond the warranty, which is set to expire this summer. The extended warranty offered to me was priced at $14,6k. Uhmm... No thanks.
According to the BMW finance manager, the increase in warranty cost to $14,6k was due to recent service data on X7 models. She mentioned that an X7 is currently in the shop needed a transmission replacement at 25,000 miles, she added, "get rid of it before the warranty expires, unless, you're willing to pay for the extended warranty.

I love my X7, but I may have to tell it Auf Wiedersehen!

Sounds like a shit build unfortunately. If I had your car, I’d dump it as well. Mine is flawless so far *knock on wood*. Sorry you have to go through that.

You could be right. It’s a shame because the car looks brand new, not a scratch on it. I was planning on keeping it for thousands of years, but with all the problems it has had thus far, it’s just a burden. With two super active young boys, I don’t have time to take it back and forth to the dealership. I may just pay the subscription. 😁

You could try a third party mechanic break down insurance (Endurance) type program. Alternatively, maybe they have fixed all the build issues. Or maybe there are more there. Might be worth trading it in on a newer CPO or find a private party seller who has a cherry condition and non-issue car. I bought mine from a private party off auto trader (it still had 18m of factory warranty so there was some confidence there). Been lucky so far I think but I’ve only had it one month and drove it 1500 miles (24k on the clock).

My prior research found that 2019-2020 had the most issues due to new gen model + covid (for later 2020 builds). Mine was built 4/2021 I think but most of the dust settled by Q1 2021.

Since my last post here about seven months ago, I’ve added 20k miles.

‘21 M50i 82.5k miles

Racechip at 7 for almost all of them.

This weekend will mark my 3rd anniversary of taking delivery. A nice Mother’s Day gift for myself, 😆, my wife was not pleased.

Whoa nice! That must be the highest mileage M50i I’ve seen !!

Aside from the fuel and tire costs 😂 Any major items you’ve had to do?
