1) The registering the battery just sets up a different charging profile.
2) It would not explode by not being registered. It would charge less due to the car thinking the age of the battery and couldn't handle a full charge.What the above is referring to would be the opposite.. maybe putting an old battery into a car that had a fresh registration?
3) A lot of times people get in their cars and just plain don't seat the FOB enough. It will do what you described. Next time maybe check to see if everything else is ok? Radio worked etc.... like said before, did it unlock the doors?
Having the battery not registered would do nothing at all to affect what you are describing...
