The inflation argument makes sense as part of the equation.

However, IMHO the joy of owning/using an exciting car experienced during all those years + the added driving and motoring know-how and experience you get, has its value too (hard to quantify, for enthusiasts it's even priceless). If you need a car anyway, then why not indulge yourself by getting a car which will repeatedly put smiles on many faces (including yours)? If, finance-wise, the car takes a hit over the years, then so be it; the fun you had with it might be treasured and cherished in your mind forever. If you like it and it does not compromise the family budget, other desiderata and family plans, then why not? After the wedding, you can either enjoy with your beloved a very fine honeymoon which you will always fondly remember, or simply stay at home to save and re-invest money.

Okay, might sound quite hedonistic or even selfish, but, then again, you only live once - some even don't.
