To be honest neither can I. That said, when was the last time BMW world-premiered a car in Detroit? I honestly don't remember. Anyone? Edit: I searched and came up with the 1M back in 2011. What I do know is that pre-production cars, no matter the manufacturer or the auto show, are almost always kept under tight wraps. If it's not the final product; you really don't want potential customers pouring over every inch and scrutinizing.

By the way "roped off" is just a colloquial term, it's a figure of speech for a car that isn't accessible to the public.
