That's what I also thought. He said that when you put in newer, cleaner oil, the car "Senses" this, isn't sure where it came from but re-adjusts the next interval accordingly. My question: Who cares... With all that said, I have decided NOT to change the oil until the car tells me to or 1/yr, whichever comes first. I am a rebel.
