I have been asking myself the same thing.
Based on the questions I have asked, Im doing a few different things:
1- Performance driving school. These are everywhere. You can sign up for a day or two of classes ($300-600) as a good starter. Seeing that you are in Austin, you will find a bunch there, and of course Houston/Dallas area
2- BMW CCA. Join your local club. Get to meetings and meet the guys. Ask questions.
3- You live next to USA's only F1 track. They have events there on a regular basis. They are expensive, but if you really want become a better driver, you have to put the time and money into it.
