there should be no issue with mixing the two unless it explicitly says so on the Royal Purple literature. Oil is oil.

Now, as for the warantee issue, I think the other guys are right. To fully avoid any warantee issues, it is best to stick with a BMWLL01 or BMWLL04 rated oil.

Two examples other than BMW High Performance Synthetic are Mobil1 0W40 and Castrol Syntec 0W30... they are both BMWLL01 rated. Amsoil 5W40 is an example of a BMW LL04 oil that is sold in North America now.
