If you still have your phone and your wife's phone setup in the system that may be why it requires you to select which phone. The system might still see your wife's phone in the house. Bluetooth can reach quite far so it depends on where her phone is that it may still be visible to the system when you get back in. Just spit-balling but that may be part of the issue.
