With most of my cars, I get alignments done when I get new tires. In the case of the X7, I decided to get the alignment due to the potholes I hit. The tires don't last long in perfect conditions, I didn't want to take a chance at shortening that time with a bad alignment. I'm at about 13k miles now (like 10k on the tires).
Cost was 180, done at the dealer. I was able to order IAS on mine and I believe the dealership is about the only place that can deal with getting the alignment setup for the rear steering.
