Thanks for getting back. I've got a 2020 X5 M50i but just wanted to get some more detail on it, as even an engine out with full carbon clean and PCV replacement by the dealer has not fixed what they've been calling a "spark knock" for the last 2 years, and which came back a week later anyway.
For that 1 week of no knocking it had more torque off the mark and smoother transmission shifts. If it is carbon from the PCV I'm aware catch-cans may help, but it's not an official fix and would void what's left of the warranty.
It always occurs under low-mid load. eg, when going up a freeway entrance ramp such as this video I took back in 2022. Very clear with earphones and volume up:

Purchased CPO at 9,000 miles in early 2022, now 20,000 miles. Have 1 month left on the warranty so I'm pushing for an engine replacement. Did not think I would be going through this for 2 years after purchasing such a relatively new car...
