They are built to last if maintained. Here in Germany, most of the BMWs I see on the road are 15-20 years old. People here keep expensive items for a long time.

It is also cheaper to repair them here, ofc, so that helps.


That said, the N63 will never be a reliable engine, no matter how many folks want to claim it. The hot-v might be good for efficiency in various respects, but it certainly isn't good for daily-driver cars that need to start on a regular basis.
