Service depends entirely where you live.

I had ATT in high school back in 2003, before they merged with Cingular, and reception was horrible. I had to pull my head out the window just for the connection of call to be made.

In 2004, I switched to Verizon and has been with them since.

Verizon is the more expensive brand, crappier selection of phones, and generally better coverage. I've never had an issue with them.
