I have a 328 coupe with manual. Just drove an automatice 328 sedan as a loaner from BMW today. The automatic does have a very noticeable delay when pressing the throttle. The manual tranny on this engine does not have any delay and always has a shot of power if in the correct gear.
Power is output in th 328 is very linear with increasing revs and the engine sounds great. However, if you're driving style uses every hp and lb-foot on a regular basis you'll be disappointed.
