They dont really have a taste on their own. They can be slimy but I've found that if you run them under hot water and drain them most of the slime comes off. Pasta sauce doesnt stick very well to them so I tend to throw them together with some celery, carrots, sliced chicken breast, garlic, ginger, green onions and stir fry them with a bit of soy sauce or oyster sauce. Most of the recipes you find online that are Asian influenced tend to taste better than the ones that are westernized.
