I personally think it is quieter than the 7 series. I've driven both the 740i and the 750i when my X5 M was getting serviced, but I could hear more engine and the outside world. Not scientific, but the first thing I noticed about the X7 was how quiet it is. I did find a random website that has some dB ratings, not sure how reliable, but the 7 series is behind the S Class and the LS which C&D said we're both louder than the X7. I'd be curious if there was something definitive. The X7 is 4 years newer so not too surprising!
