Are you talking the rectangularish port covered by the sliding door? If so, that is for click-and-go accessories. At least that is what they were called in my Range Rover. The parts actually moved over and worked from it which was nice. There are accessories like coat hooks and ipad holders you can snap into those sockets. If you take a peek at the BMW USA website there is a good listing of what is available and based on my use, the ones on the Range Rover site work as well. I think it must be some form of universal port that each brand puts their name on.
