My question is, what is the best set up to drive in icy conditions?
My last BMW 320d was a nightmare in icy conditions, and couldnt go up a hill on ice without wheel spin.
Do you have 18 or 19" wheels? If the former then you can get Michelin Cross-Climate, they (somehow) work well in the snow and still when it's warm and sunny. I don't think they make them for 19" wheels though (they didn't last time I looked about a year ago). I ended up getting Michelin Alpin 4S winter tyres which were amazing (better than a 4x4 with summer tyres) but then I sold my Mondeo to get my 330e and they weren't (quite) the right size. Surprisingly still got £500 for them on eBay... Not sure I'll bother this year given the 1 day of snow we had last year when I felt very smug but I was amazed at the difference in stopping distance on ice/snow between summer & winter tyres. Even at 30mph it can be 50m!!!

This is a bit old but shows the point...
