Yes et45+10mm spacer is et35. Maybe he bought the setup that vendor recommend as a problem free setup and in the end wasn't happy how the wheels look at the car and decided to get spacers or the another thing if they didn't have the et35. There could be many reasons. Of course if lower offset is available you could choose that.
