I got my X5 in early June and it had .44. OTA updates have only worked to add the “caring car” and “experience modes” as far as I can tell.
My car is in the shop and is supposed to get a software update. I wouldn’t hold your breath on the OTA iDrive updates. If you ask me, they are never gonna happen and if they do, might be kind of a nightmare.
My advice is that if your car is working, wait until your first service to ask the dealer to do it. They seem to roll out updates based on your VIN, I got an email in September saying my car was eligible for a software update, so I’m holding my dealers feet to the fire while he has it in the shop. My dealer is 90 mins drive from me, so I don’t pop in - ever.
I recommend you look at the X5 forum. It’s basically the same car in terms of software and iDrive, and that forum is much more active.
