It depends on how you spec the GLE. There are potentially 4 different suspension systems: steel springs, Airmatic, Active Curve, & E-Active Body Control. While not up to AMG or M spec, even my '12 ML with Airmatic & Active Curve (dynamic roll bars) handles very well in Sport mode. Overall your statement has some degree of truth, but is over-generalized. There are some GLEs that handle better than some X5s, and vice-versa.
