This.... Before I test drove the X7 I remember reading the comments/concerns about the running boards hitting the side of your pants/leg when getting out, etc. My curiosity got the best of me, so I messed around with getting in/out of the X7 with running boards using different techniques (dealer probably thought I was a bit nuts ). I ended up using a similar technique that I use to get in/out of my (bigger & slightly lifted) Ford Expedition. Getting in/out, I grabbed the "oh shit" handle above the door for some extra leverage and then put one foot on the running board to get in/out - which didn't seem too awkward. This technique (or something similar) also serves to save the extra wear/tear on your seat side bolster (from sliding across them), especially when getting out of the X7.
