Pardon the interloping from a mere x5 40i owner (although I will likely soon get an x7 also - it’s a sickness, I guess), but I think the x7 40i will be quicker to 60 than 5.8 seconds in the real world. Car and Driver instrument tested the x5 40i to sixty in 4.9 seconds. The am sure they have perfect launches but there is no reasonable way the x7 40i can be thought of underpowered.

Of course the v8 will have more pull especially in the 30 to 80mph highway ramp situation. If that matters, then the v8 would better suit.

We can at least appreciate that nowadays the smaller engine version of an suv gets all the good cosmetic bits. Much better than the bad old days (I’m thinking about the merc GL specifically) when the v6 looked so cheap with too much grey cladding and 18 or 17 inch wheel choices.
