FWIW... a card that is not signed is not valid. See ID is not a substitute for a signature. If a card is not signed, you are supposed to have the customer sign it, show ID, check the signature against the one on the ID, and then have the customer sign the receipt. Accepting an unsigned card opens the merchant up to liability on a disputed charge. You are also NOT supposed to ask for ID when the card is signed.
