Yeah i head that on the news this morning and they said she was not in the cross walk. They are not sure if the car tried to stop or when she actually stepped into the car's path. These systems generally are very good at avoid objects in the road, but they can not determine if someone is paying attention and plan to cross into the cross when they should not. System like these have to assume things follow a set of assuming and one of them is humans would not cross in front of moving car. ie people are not stupid.

I personal have been driving down a road and saw things which did not seem right and began to slow just in case, some time I am wrong but a number of times I avoid what could have been bad.
