Don't blame the industry: blame the consumer.

You think those 19" bling bling are less expensive to manufacture then reasonable 15/16" running gear? Who has driven the market towards the large vehicles people buy in droves
in the US vs. reasonably sized coupes and sedans? Even our 'sedans' have to look larger
with grand coupes and BMW's less then attractive GT series.

2500 lb cars can easily run 30K with good sticky tires (longer with rocks).

4500 lb monstrosities? Not so much.

I am with you on RFTs: the first few gens are not all that great with respect to ride quality but they continue to get better: engineers are pretty smart folks.

Final thought: tires are the most important thing on your car with respect to safety. Stopping in 10 feet less from 70 MPH is the difference between nothing and a new front end. There is no free lunch with that equation.

You want 50K donuts? Get a Prius.
