I see you're a MB owner (we owned a GL 550 and two GLS 550) and Mercedes dropped the designo option in their 2020 GLE/GLS models. We have Full Merino Leather in our 2019 50i and love it. We may trade it on a 2021 Alpina XB7 will has Full Merino Leather as a $1500 option.
Someone else on this thread commented BMW may have dropped the 50i and Full Merino Leather because of the upcoming XB7. I think he's onto something. |
Yes both my CLS and the Mrs' GLC have the designo leather, we love the higher quality feel compared to that of the regular leathers and it really makes the interiors feel more special, plus the color options are really nice, an absolute must on our options list.
One of the reasons I actually dislike the GLE and GLS is the lack of higher quality materials and leather. Designo is weirdly only available on AMG trims, and the door bins are plastic while shockingly our GLC 300, which is the base trim, offers soft touch door bins (even w/ MB-Tex) as well as Designo leather as an option, despite being lower in the lineup. I'm not sure if this is due to the supply chain issues that MB is suffering from with the GLE/GLS. If we were shopping Mid-Size the X5's interior is easily top of its class, but we didn't need a vehicle that big so we went GLC after trying out the X3, but not liking the dated interior or seats which were uncomfortable after long periods of time.
Anyways, one of the things I loved from the X5/6/7 was the Merino leather, if I bought one it is a must (it's especially good looking in Ivory White) so I was quite surprised to see it no longer an option. Maybe BMW is also cutting back or having supply issues due to Corona?
