I like Speed's analysis on how Mclaren's approach on the new season. That they took the 2010 MP4-25 and test the Pirelli with it. which the only "unknown variables" will be the tires.
Then later in the Winter testing, they finally rolled out the MP4-26, which tires are no longer an "unknown variable", so the team and engineers can pin point exactly where to improve in the new chassis. Now think back...it all make sense.

To be honest the mclaren got damn lucky their update has worked so well... in reality they have effectively stolen the red bull & ferrari exhaust exit/blown diffuser design.
BTW the red bull kers system isn't broken it has been specifically designed in a way that they don't operate it in qualifying. The speculation is that it is a smaller less complicated system designed for use solely at the start.
