Perhaps rather than making a very broad statement about pursuing a University education, it would be better if you were to steer him away from your chosen field?

Not all fields are equal.

If one wants to pursue a trade, by all means, go for it! Good pay, great opportunities to be your own boss (electrician, plumber, carpenter, etc.), etc.
