True, yet I find that if you keep the car in sport plus and S3, the best sound is obtainable. I hang her in gear, and when I let off there's a decent amount of crackle, etc. Same for in-between shifts. I did that last week on a run and my friend behind me in his M couple, commented on how great the car sounded. However, I should have to use this method to get the best sound out..
