OT slightly, but I don't know why your GS3 had any problems as mine was fine. Also, I think the One is running 4.1.2, which is the same as your GS3.
I just bought a GS4 after considering the One and the Z and it worked first time and every time. It's running 4.2.x
Looking at the two phones you're considering, the One would be my second preference.
