Honestly I didn't notice any difference in performance or the oil temperature. I just do it for peace of mind. You can buy the oil and oil filter for around $60 shipped from Tischer BMW or a local dealership can do it for around $100. I did my first oil change at 1,200 miles..just like I did on my last car, an Evo and in both cars..oil that came out was PITCH BLACK.
Not to sound like a jerk, but if this car was a lease, I probably wouldn't do it so often. But it's a buy so I'm doing everything I can to keep it in top condition. I'm looking into transmission fluid change now, but I'm seeing quite a debate on the issue.
