While these specs are believable, we should treat this as purely speculative. Is it possible that some of this was vetted through inside sources? Sure. But we don’t know that and should assume it is all guesswork (and I know you know this, I just wanted to say it here for others who read this thread and may not be aware).
That being said, we know the upcoming X3 M will get an S58 with somewhere around 450hp (could be more, but certainly less than 500hp) in 2019. So, the use of this engine in the next M3 makes a great deal of sense. I personally consider this to be a near certainty. Similarly, the continued use of RWD and the option for a manual transmission also make sense and would jibe with what I would say is prevailing belief.
