My saab turbo has no detectable lag, unless Im driving it in such a way that the turbo is not spooled (e.g. ultra-low RPM criusing, near lug-zone for max MPGs).
Then again, it is only a 7psi turbo, and is designed for low inertia, fast spool.
My MB turbodiesel on the other hand has a decent amount of lag, because it is bigger and goes to higher pressure. Installing a boost controller helped it, but it still isnt that fast.
I drove the 135i, and the turbo helps to move the car with a gentle touch of the throttle, far more easily than the same style applied to the 128i. Yes, it takes a second to really build it up if you slam the throttle, but it is definitely not bad - there is a good second or so more lag on my brother's 3000GT VR4.
