Autosol is quite abrasive, I wouldn't use it on anything that isn't heavily tarnished already otherwise it could damage the finish. I just wash the exhaust tips on mine (and all cars previously) with normal car shampoo and they have all stayed looking clean and shiny. Occasionally they might need some tar remover. Admittedly some second hand cars I've had required a good polish up and I normally start with old car polish before resorting to metal polish.
Autosol is too abrasive to leave a mirror finish though, especially on soft metals like aluminium and it's alloys hence the warning on the packet
