As far as I know, the Cayman/Boxster is their own chassis/platform that requires Porsche to commit 100% to its R&D for that vehicle. The Cayenne (Coupe) is built on the PL71 platform which is used for the Audi Q7 and the Volkswagen Touareg.

Not hard to see why it would be relatively easier and less of a burden financially to come out with a vehicle that is built on a shared platform and a type of vehicle that people are buying vs. a sports car/roadster which is a niche market and where Porsche would have to commit financially as its own platform/chassis.

Times have changed. Days of unique platforms and powertrains are over.
