The X7 is a champ in the snow (on stock tires)

I've been a big proponent of snow tires, every BMW I've owned in the last 15 years has had them.

But when the X7 first came out it had a rare tire size and it was tough to find snow tires. Then here in the northeast US we've had very mild winters, haven't had any meaningful accumulation since I've owned the X7. So I never bothered to get them, just ran all year round on the stock all season runflats.

Well, today was the day. We got 24" last week and today another 6" was on the ground when I had to venture out to get the family Super Bowl meal spread. 6" of really thick snow atop a ground layer of ice and white hard-pack. I was concerned just getting out of the driveway on my runflats.

Well, I needn't have worried at all. Easy as can be, no problems at all. Twice I had to stop at traffic lights on an incline, both times just accelerated naturally and had no wheel spin whatsoever. Very impressed.
