If you got snow on the ground and it’s not hard packed or iced up, then AS are fine for most driving. It’s when you hit ice and then snow tires will perform better, but still may not save you.

Studded or chained up tires are the best. Saw an ad recently that they were trying to develop a set of snow tires where the studs come out on demand and then retract when not needed. Nest of both worlds.
Ice wll take you out no matter what you have on the car. Unless studded or chains.
