Could be an ID3v2 vs. ID3v1 issue. What do you use to tag your stuff? I've been using foobar2k for years. I'll check my tags in Winamp when I get home.
EDIT: Ha. Just had to turn on the "CD text" option in the music player menu (info button, check CD-text). Works like a charm!
