Definitely this.
I went to the meets around here b/c I just moved to the area and really didn't know anyone. Some of the people I met are now some of my best friends, and I've been able to get a hookup on every single thing I've gotten for my car.
Not to mention, some of the people I've met have awesome stables. I've gotten to ride in or drive cars I never imagined I would.
There is one on Saturday mornings here in VA which is probably the best meet I'll ever see. Google "Katie's cars and coffee" and look at the pictures, every single week there were different exotics there:
