I haven't noticed much change in the sound of the performance exhause over time, especially with respect to drone. The overall sound level seems to have increased slightly with breakin. I take it that you installed the complete performance exhaust. If you have the resonator, you might want to reinstall it. If not, you can probably pick up one. I have the complete stock exhaust (from the cut for the resonator eliminator back) with only a couple hundred miles on it and could put it up for sale if anyone is interested.
