In my opinion you should get them some china or silverware. I got my friends a set of china and they loved it. It was one of the items they registered and they use it every day. So either pick something from their list or buy something practical.
I appreciated cash more than anything, but that's because I had to pay for a large chunk of the wedding myself. My wife and I were living together for 4 years prior so we had most of the stuff we needed.
