Also, modern diesel engine cars have DPFs (diesel particulate filters). Making a performance exhaust breathe efficiently through one of those is incredibly difficult.
It used to be the case that a lot of people would remove the internals of the DPF to assist airflow through exhausts. However, a lot of countries have introduced (in annual roadworthiness tests) a check on the DPF being installed and working as it should. Failure means your car is off the road until rectified, and a new DPF is not cheap.
