I did notice that my M235's coolant reservoir was slightly below the cold level when I got the car (new). I added 150ml of distilled water to bring it up to the cold level on a cold engine. Even under hard driving, the coolant level on the reservoir has never gotten more than midway between the cold and hot marks.

Yes. That's why i bought the BMW Coolant. Because of my OCD, i can't live with that reservoir with the coolant under de max line.
When i received the car the coolant level was also in MIN so i complete it. Why is that ?? In a new car with 5 miles when delivered ?
